Wastewater is received from the (2) municipalities in which we serve, Stewartstown Borough and parts of Hopewell Township. We currently have (14) sewer collection stations throughout our system that convey the wastewater to our wwtp. We currently service just under 2,100 sewer customers. The original WWTP was constructed in the early 1970’s and was a contact stabilization activated sludge treatment plant that was designed to treat up to 0.425 mgd. Our effluent is discharged into the Ebaugh Creek and heads south into Maryland and ultimately into the Chesapeake Bay. In the early 2000’s we recognized the need to upgrade our plant to meet more stringent parameters such as nitrogen/phosphorous. It was decided to upgrade our plant to an SBR system (Aqua-Aerobic) and permitted to treat up to 0.740 mgd. The upgrades were started in 2007 and completed in 2008. We currently have (3) SBR tanks that work to treat the wastewater which is then sent through our UV system (Calgon) and DO is added just prior to being discharged into the creek. We produce E/Q Class A Biosolids. Currently we’re awaiting the installation of our new screw press (Schwing), this takes the place of our 27-year old belt filter press. Once dewatered our solids enter into our Schwing Bioset system to produce Class A biosolids. The solids are stored onsite until our local farmers request material to be dumped at their respective sites. Our plant engineer (Jason Lytle, GMB) has been working on our next cycle of upgrades in order to continue meeting and/or exceeding our list of parameters on our NPDES Permit.
